What Music Lessons Can Do For Your Child's Intelligence Development

by Henry Scott

It is still ambiguous what the consequences of taking music lessons in the progress of IQ in children are. A study held in the '90s stands out today, concluding that listening to Mozart classical music can increase one's spatial reasoning. That is the reason why there are mothers who believe that their babies will grow up more intelligent if they play classical music while they asleep. The general perception is that music helps kids become more intelligent that's why parents give them music classes as early as possible, although there are also reports about the subject that generated other outcome.

Others dispute that it is not easy to gauge the progress of IQ by just throwing in music lessons to the children's curriculum since there are many variables that influence one's intelligence quotient. Just observing its impact to those who have classes in music will not assure firm outcome. The kids who have parents who can ordinarily pay for music lessons most probably belong to the socioeconomic class that normally has higher IQ average than the others who can't pay for the lessons. It may also be that kids are naturally in the age where they form curiosity in lots of things and open their minds to learning.

While the impact of studying music to children's IQ are still disputable, there are benefits of giving music lessons to the little ones. The constructive impact of music in kids are indisputable, although its role in the progress of their general intelligence is not clear.

Music lessons for kids can help them direct their restless energy into something constructive. For preschool kids particularly, they can find musical programs physically fulfilling and mentally uplifting, allowing them to explore their surroundings through music and absorb information in an uplifting and pleasing way.

And while music classes for small kids are generally enjoyable and lively, they also compel kids to focus and practice memorization. The lessons can help kids pick up their curiosity in music or even in other things too. They are also good early training ground before children begin attending school.

There are some parents who desire to give the limelight to their kids, hoping that they will become music prodigies with lessons. But music lessons don't necessarily make children stars. They do so much more, though. They aim to expose children to music, increase their self-esteem, and assist them in finding their interest.
