The Korg M1 The Popular Workstation

by Thomas Penske

The Korg M1 is the best musical synthesizer in the industry. It has been used by most of the famous musicians to produce their music. It is liked my many people in the music industry because it offers a lot of advantages compared to others. It has many features that help the producer make quality beats. Furthermore, it has a good interface which is easy to use.

This unit has a maximum of sixteen polyphony which when it is made into a double oscillator, it reduces to half of that (eight). The interaction between the two oscillators does not exist thus it had to run two of them in a parallel system.

The digital sound is fed into a digital amplifier through a low pass filter. The controllers mainly incorporated the use of keyboard tracking and envelopes.

It made use of a component called compressed acoustic piano. This in the years later became very popular and was mostly used by dance producers and even on records. The system came with two presets namely piano16 and organ2. All these were popular during early nineties because they were used to produce music.

Combi, as it was popularly known was a combination of several programs or patches that could play simultaneously. These were played at several velocity areas or even keys. All this was made possible by the M1 unit. Very complicated sounds could thus be played through the keyboard and the MIDI, since the unit allowed.

The Korg M1 had one of the best sequencers. It gave the authorization for full track editing, this made it very possible to produce very high quality songs by only using the machine. It also offered two effects which were independent of each other, these included the flanger, delay and even the chorus. The earlier systems had not been able to do this.
